Fire Philippines, thousands of people homeless



Manila: The fire that burned a slum near the main port in the Philippine capital, causing 4,000 people lost their homes and killing a girl aged 5 years, as reported by AP, on Sunday (17 / 1).

Saturday night, the fire consume the 500 houses in the slum crowded along the edge of Manila Bay. Several people were injured and exposed to broken glass. The fire that lasted for two hours, is now being investigated the cause.

Gwendolyn Pang, an official of the Philippine National Red Cross said, the victims housed in two refugee centers in the complex, including the social hall. Thelsa Biolena, regional director of the Social Welfare Department to say, porridge and noodles were distributed to the victims, and food packaging more will be distributed on Monday. "The Red Cross will also send food Monday," said Pang.

Similar fire had occurred in Manila in 2002 resulted in 15,000 people homeless. In the year 2004 blaze greater cause 25,000 people homeless. Housing in the slums of Manila is very possible the fire quickly spread, because it is made of combustible materials.
